PEP2BRAIN
Selected peptides as drug candidates directed to pain and neurodegeneration. FP7-PEOPLE-IAPP-2008. Marie Curie Actions—Industry-Academia Partnerships and Pathways (IAPP). Project Nº230654. The goal of this project is to promote the preclinical development of selected peptides for the therapy of pain and neurodegenerative diseases. This project is a 48 months project with an overall contribution from EU of € 659,895.00 involving 4 entities (2 companies and 2 Universities and 1 R&D Institute).
NEURASYNC
Neuroscientific EURopean research and training network on Alpha-SYNuclein. FP7-PEOPLE-ITN-2008. Marie Curie Actions-Initial Training Networks (ITN). Proposal Nº 238316.
The aim of this project is to study the structure of various conformations of ASYN and its applications as a biomarker for PD and related diseases. Furthermore, the pathways involved in neurotoxicity will be examined in combination with screening methods to identify modulators of ASYN function with therapeutic potential. This is a 48 months project with an overall contribution from EU of € 2,419,227.00 involving 10 partners (3 companies, 5 Universities and 2 R&D Institutes).
UKZN
Collaboration with University of Kwazulu Natal, South África in order to discover new compounds with therapeutic potential against neurodegeneration and CNS disorders using BIOALVO’s screening applications. Purified compounds, extracted from the plant Plectranthus hadiensis, one of the largest South African genus in the family of Lamiaceae, presented very strong activity (at nanomolar level) against IDO.
Inclusions of alpha-synuclein (Lewy Bodies )in neural
cells are the pathological hallmark of Parkinson's
Disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.
